After much hard work with our webmaster Peter Cousins we have now found a way to publish our Photographic Archive on line for everybody to benefit from. I thought I would just explain how the archive came into being as this will explain some of the anomalies which you will find when searching it.

The archive was started by copying all the images that Duncan Lucas had accumulated over the years. These he had stored in photo albums which were numbered for easy reference and retrieval. Many of these images were given to him but there was no record of the source. I have followed his referencing system for all future additions to the archive. Each photo therefore has a number and description in the file name. e.g. 7-119 Kilby Bridge signal Box.jpg and all images are saved as .jpg files.

Over the past 20 years or so I have collected many more images from various sources and added them to the archive. Where possible I have recorded the origin of the image within the META data of each file but there may well be many where the true source or copyrite is unknown. If, in your perusal of the archive, you find images that belong to you then please let me know and I can add your name as the owner of the image.

META date is information about each image that is too large for the file name. If you find an image you would like to know more about than note the reference and look in the index’s which show the META data if any is recorded. META data also records the image owner, copyrite or origin in known.

The Galleries within the archive have been categorised by Village and then by specific items such as Roads, People / Events, Adverts, Maps etc. What you are searching for may well be categorised under two or more categories.

The on line archive will however always be behind the master archive as new images are being received daily. Updates will be made to the on line archive but these may only be once or twice a year due to the large amount of work involved.

If you have any images you would like to add to the archive then please contact me at [email protected].

Enjoy your browsing. Mike Forryan - Chairman
